Eulogy – Maria Cristea

I’d like to share with you all a few things about the life of our grandmother Maria Cristea. Maria was born in the heart of Romania in the small German village of Sincu Brasov on the 14th of June, 1934, to parents Emil Ghircoias and Elena Moga, who were both of similar age, born in 1898. She was the baby of the family—she had three brothers, Gheorghe, Jon and Basile. Life was not easy, when you consider that World War…

A Tribute to our Mum – Catharina Bende Sas

This is a very brief recollection of the life of a beautiful lady, Catharina Bende Sas, as seen through the eyes of her children Lidia, Charles and Rubem. Cyclone Harold Update

Cyclone Harold Appeal

A news update from Br. Ben Thiel, secretary for Pacific Region. As I’ve been in contact with the brethren from different countries across the Pacific recently, it has been encouraging to hear that during this time, where it’s difficult to move about, that people are keeping in contact and supporting each other, with prayer, through phone calls, and also that fellowship and meetings are still happening via various multimedia options—both the Sabbath schools, divine services, young people’s meetings and prayer…

Theme for 2020-2022

A theme has been announced for our strategic planning for the current term. This will be, “Uplifting Jesus, Serving People, Proclaiming Truth.” We uplift Jesus by studying His character, accepting His righteousness, and depending on His daily grace. We serve people by ministering to their physical, mental and spiritual needs, with prayer that they may be blessed, enriched, and led to a closer relationship with God. We proclaim truth by making God’s word our standard, understanding its teachings, and upholding…

Congress, climate change & the sunday law

Four years ago, I wrote an editorial on the Pope’s Laudato Si’ encyclical. That encyclical, released on June 18, 2015, called for discussion and dialogue on climate change. Pope Francis stated,   “The urgent challenge to protect our common home includes a concern to bring the whole human family together to seek a sustainable and integral development, for we know that things can change.” (Laudato Si’, Sec 13)  According to Pope Francis, that development includes the restoration of spiritual life in all of humanity, with Christ, in the form of the Eucharist, at its centre, and Sunday,…

Recently the youth from the Keilor Park Church took part in a 3 Day canvassing project, which began on Monday the 14th of January and extended to Wednesday the 16th. Long-awaited answer to prayer

It has been nearly 4 years now since a Sri Lankan family started a battle which, at the time, seemed a quick immigration matter. We always knew that the chances were not so good, but never thought it would take the family 4 years to get to this point. They had only been in the country for about 6 months, and hopes were high that they could quickly apply for a protection visa and settle in Australia. Their third child was just born, and…
